Born in Harrisburg, PA, Andy received his BA in jazz saxophone and MA in composition at the University of Miami. After nearly 20 years in the New York jazz scene, he relocated to Vienna, Austria in 2006, where he is Professor of Jazz Composition, Jazz Arrangement and Jazz Saxophone at the University for Music and Art of the City of Vienna.

Andy Middleton Quartet – This band is composed of Tino Derado (Berlin, DE) on piano, Alan Jones (Portland, OR, USA ) on drums, Tomáš Baroš on acoustic bass and Andy Middleton on tenor and soprano saxophones. This Quartet is featured on most of Andy’s recordings.
Andy Middleton/Piotr Wylezoł Duo – Piotr Wylezoł (piano) and Andy Middleton have developed a very special musical connection in their duo performances. Piotr is widely recognized as one of the leading Polish jazz pianists. With his latest, enthusiastically received album “Human Things” he writes a new chapter in the legendary Polish jazz publishing series and thus fits into the pantheon of the greatest Polish jazzmen in history.
Andy Middleton Freedom Quartet – This ensemble is based around the Polish trumpet star Piotr Wojtasik and is quite different in character than the Andy Middleton Quartet. The instrumentation of trumpet, saxophone, acoustic bass (Garrett Baxter, USA), and drums Alan Jones, USA) supports a contrapuntal, open and spontaneous approach that can lead the band anywhere at anytime.
Andy Middleton Octet – This ensemble performs Andy’s medium-ensemble compositions, some of which are to be heard on his recordings “Terra Infirma” and “Reinventing the World”, and features Hungarian master pianist Kálmán Oláh, Lukáš Oravec on trumpet, Tomáš Baroš on acoustic bass, Andy Middleton on tenor and soprano saxophones, Marian Sevcik on drums, as well as trumpet, alto saxophone, trombone and baritone saxophone.
